As a Training & Curriculum Specialist, you may be involved in conversations about individual children and their development. This may occur when staff members or families have concerns about development. Use this guide to have conversations with staff members about child development. You can also use the tool to prepare for meetings with families about their child’s cognitive development.

Questions to ask Staff Members:

1. What methods are you using to observe the child? How are you recording information?

    

2. When have you observed the child?

    

3. What do you know about expected developmental milestones at this age?

    

4. What developmental milestones have you observed in this child? Provide specific, objective examples from your observation records.

    

5. What are examples of challenges you see this child having? Provide specific, objective examples from your observation records.
