Child Abuse Prevention for ³Ô¹ÏÍø Staff

Your first responsibility as a support staff member in a child development or school-age program is to keep children safe from harm. In this course, you will learn more about strategies for preventing child abuse and neglect that may occur in a child’s home or program. You will also learn about typical child development and behaviors that you may observe in your program, how appropriate expectations for behavior prevent child abuse, what positive guidance techniques look like, and how to recognize inappropriate discipline or punishment. Finally, this course describes ways that you can support direct care staff and families to keep children safe from harm.

Child Abuse Identification & Reporting for ³Ô¹ÏÍø Staff

As a support staff member in a child development or youth program, you have an obligation to recognize, report, and prevent child abuse and neglect. In this course, you will learn about different types of child abuse and how to recognize signs of child abuse and neglect that may occur in homes or child and youth programs. You will also learn about your legal and ethical obligation to report suspicions of child abuse and neglect. This course will identify specific procedures for making a report, resources available after making a report, and ways that you can support families experiencing stress and adversity.
