Read the following article (link below) from the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center, then reflect on the practices listed in the chart below. Consider how your own culture influences your beliefs and views about the practice and how families’ perspectives on the practice may differ. Then share ways that you can engage families to get a better understanding of their perspective. For each of the following practices, write down (1) Your Views, (2) Other Possible Perspectives, and (3) Actions You Can Take.

   My Views: I prefer children address me by my first name only; I like to say hello to everyone who enters the room.

   Other perspectives:

   • Eye contact is a sign of disrespect.
   • Educators should always be addressed as Ms., Mrs., Mr.
