Directions: Collaborating with families to learn more about their preschooler is critical in providing culturally responsive care. Use the guiding questions below to create a questionnaire to share with families in your program to gather information that will help you get to know their children better. Select questions from the list below or write your own questions based on what you know about the children and families in your program. Consider additional questions that you might include to best support the children and families in your classroom community. • Is there a story behind your child’s name (include the story or special meaning behind your child’s name)?
• What is your child’s date of birth?
• What is your child’s race and ethnicity?
• What languages are spoken in your home?
• Who is in your family?
• Do you have special names for family members? (Abuelo, Papa, etc.)
• What special traditions does your family participate in and why do they have a special meaning?
• What special foods does your family eat and why do they have special meaning?
• What shows or movies does your child like and why?
• What types of music or songs does your child enjoy and why?
• What books or materials does your child enjoy and why?
• What is one thing that your child is really good at?
• What are two or three things that your child is still working on?
