Directions: Consider how biases show up in your classroom or learning environment. Observe one child for two to three days and notice how you engage with them. During your interactions, take notes and reflect on the questions below. Share with a coworker, trainer, coach or administrator or note your reflections in a journal. 

1. Is your engagement mostly positive or negative?
    
2. How does this compare with how you engage with other students? 
    
3. What do they do outside of the school or program?  How can you obtain this information if you do not have access to it? Consider how you might want to approach a conversation with the child or family to learn more about their identity outside of your program.
    
4. Who do they engage with? How often do they engage in that activity and how do they feel about it? 
    
5. Does the information learned in your reflection match your initial idea of who you thought the student was?
